The New Era of Football Trafficking: Fake Agents Are Kidnapping and Killing African Players
Cheikh Toure was lured from Senegal to Ghana, he begged his family for money before being murdered. Several other Senegalese players are currently missing in the West African country.
On October 16, Ghanaian police discovered the body of Cheikh Touré, an 18-year-old goalkeeper from Senegal, in a hospital morgue in the city of Kumasi.
The man, named only as Issah, who brought him there said it was an accident, but police found severe wounds to his abdomen. The boy had been severely beaten and tortured.
Tragically, World of Crime’s sister publication, the Sports and Crime Briefing, confirmed that a number of other players from Senegal are still being held in Ghana, with little to no information as to their whereabouts.
